:::::QUICK NOTE:::
So you're gonna' download these & say "what's with all the cartoony voice cuts? I don't get it..?" Well, my DJ name is from Futurama. I'm obsessed with the show. SO every mix I do, I throw in a few Futurama samples just cuz' it's different & the show is hilarious. That is all.
I had a pretty lazy day this day. straightened up a little, made food, worked out, got stood up & that's about it. & when I made this mixtape I wasn't thinking about anything really but putting good music on a CD. This was completely off the cuff & live. I wanted to focus on new(er) stuff that's out instead of playing the typical Golden Age ish. This is my new thing. Hope you dig it.
so this is a gem that I thought some of you might get a kick out of. This is the first mixtape I ever did by myself back in 98'. It's of 100% my dad's records and all of the tracks are samples from hiphop songs.. *& 2 weren't samples at the time but are now*. I don't expect everyone to get them all but if you do.. kudos.
So since I got XM.. *well SiriusXM now* I've had the chance to listen to alot of different kinda' music & I came across a station called "XMU" & I was hooked. They just play dope eclectic indie rock stuff. So after like a year of compiling this ish I decided to do a mixtape of some of it. AND I feel that anything done in a HipHop context is better so... Its different but that's why I like it. Hope you do too.
ahh love. & good ol' hate. the yin & yang of life. so this mixtape i made when i was going thru some ish with you know... life. soooo since i tend to not worry about anything, i let out my frustration thruu music. this is what i came up with. enjoi.
there's more songs on the topic of love than anything else so of course its easiest to make a mixtape with this subject matter. it just makes it alot easier when it happens to be my favorite subject. even though there's nothing more real & honest & sincere than pain, nothing quite makes it all feel better, better than love.
enjoi.
*oh & I don't know where "love's sick" 1 & 2 are. so if I gave you a copy sometime ago.. uhh.. can I burn that..? good looking out*
so i dug & dug & dug & finally found "Love's Sick II". this one is a little more obvious than III & not as depressing as "Love x Hate". so listen & enjoy.
yeah i don't really know WHAT to say about this mixtape.. there's a little bit of everything on here. Indie, rock, hiphop, soul, R&B, 80's, pop... this is kinda' like what I do when I play at restaurants. you never really know what's going to come next but it all seems to blend beautifully. let the liquor tell it...
enjoi
did this mixtape on sunday & then I realized that I haven't done a "Sundayz" mixtape in a while. Here's the latest installment. Play this only on a day when you're cleaning. Or cooking a nice dinner for your lady. Cuz' by the time she gets home, it'll mellow out & bam. Baby making time.

.one two IV
ok so before anyone mentions anything about it, the last track on this comp is quite possibly my favorite track of 2010. so far anyway, since we ain't done yet. for me it has everything i've ever wanted in a hiphop song. nuff' said. One Two VI I promise you will be an actual mix. just wanna' get my comp on for a sec.
anyway, we got some preemo produced bun b on here, some more camp lo, new pharaohe monch & more colin munroe choruses! *yaaayyyy.. i like that guy's voice. pause* & not to mention yet another black milk track. *the man is the future of hip hop production.. .mark my words*
aight there's a few tracks on here that you'll either love or completely hate. 1st off, the sleigh bells track "crown on the ground" is supposed to be distorted. they did it on purpose. i've heard it from multiple reliable sources. it's gonna' sound crazy at first, cuz' it did to me, however it grew on me & by the third listen i was on their team. it bees that way sometimes. & you might say to yourself, "yourself, that freebass 808 track sounds awfully alot like geechi suede from camp lo." well, it is him. freebass808 is just a different band he's in. it's totally different from the camp lo sound but then again... if you follow camp lo like I do, it's really not.
anywho, that is all. i threw in a little dubstep for good measure also. enjoy the 19 different sounds.

ok so i'm not a negative person. i know you wouldn't think so from my dj rants but to be fair all that stuff is true, i just kina' theatricalized it up. *you like my made up word? i made that right now. like a baby.*
however, certain things really piss me off. & nothing pisses me off more than lazy hip hop fans. i don't know how many people i know & respect come to me on some "there's no good hip hop out right now. nothing is good. all this radio shit is so bad. hip hop is dead. bla bla bla..." *all you people know who you are & yes I am putting you on blast*
here's your problem: you're lazy. the hip hop we love, we used to be able to hear on the radio. it was on mtv. the box. b.e.t. it was soooooo easy to find good hiphop, you didn't have to do anything more than sit in your car.
those days have long been gone. apparently unbeknown to you, for the last 10 years our favorite artists have been on their own labels. they're on satellite radio. they're on college radio. they're all over the internet. so, its not as easy as it was finding their music. *although I never found iTunes & amazon hard*. heaven forbid hip hop go underground again! *gasp!
so if you're lazy, fine. come here & i'll supply you with plenty of hiphop for your listening content. however, if you're a true hiphop fan. a fan of the culture & not just a mooch wanting free shit, you'll do what I do & go & research & buy some albums. if you like it, buy it. simple as that.
i'm doing this for my friends who have lost their way. for my boys that tell me that the 1st album they've bought in the last few years was justin timberlake's most recent. for all the people who used to put me onto new shit that don't anymore cuz' they got married. cuz' they had a kid. cuz' they got a new 9-5 & they're too "tired". don't be lazy. hey, i found all this shit & i'm an idiot.
you gonna' be bested by an idiot..? really?
keep digging people.

.obtuse mood II
i wanna do this as a mixtape eventually but it felt so good as a comp i just had to keep it this way. obtuse mood III will more than likely be a fast tempo eclectic mixtape though.
sometimes i'm sitting at my computer working & a track comes on my iTunes that sparks an idea for a comp. IE: the 1st track "measure" by field music. the strings compliment the somewhat overly underplayed bassline so well that it MADE me stop & listen.
makes you wonder what other music is out there that's this good that you just haven't heard... yet.
tracklist & .zip file below.
enjoi.
1. measure - field music

my friend Ray & I used to make compilations all the time back in the days. this was a way for us to express & share our musical knowledge with each other & more simply, who doesn't like to be put on to shit that's good that they've never heard before?
anyway we had a simple "high fidelity"-ish rule: each comp had to have a clear beginning, middle and end. it had to feel like all the tracks fit together. they all had to belong. AND each track had to lead to the next track. In other words, the fade out of the 1st track would have to "feel" right going into the next track and that one into the next and so on. we took it really serious.
so serious that it would take us hours to make 1 comp. & it still takes me that long to make one today.
Ray & I don't talk as much anymore (that will change eventually) but I think he'd really like this joint I did. music has changed a bit since we used to do this together but I think I learned from one of the best. so here's the tracklist & enjoy.
P.S. if you burn this onto CD, KEEP THE TRACKS IN THE ORDER THEY ARE. i can't stress that enough. it just won't sound right if you don't. ok that's all.
peace.
1. fortune - little dragon
2. here comes the flood - peter gabriel
3. re: stacks - bon iver
4. comfortable - john mayer

11. hong kong - gorillaz
12. purple rain - kate nash

15. igloo - karen o and the kids
.ya mo still be sick as shhhh....
i'm telling you right now Michael McDonald is the truth. I've known this ever since my pops would play some of his old music & just hearing the soul in his voice killed me at an early age.
Then I get XM radio & I hear this song that SOUNDS like Michael McDonald singing over it but for some reason my XM adapter for my car stereo is janky so it doesn't refresh the artist info. So I'm stuck with a 'song that sounds like michael mcdonald' in my phone for months until I come across this little gem.
I don't know what indie cats have against mr. McDonald... (& yes they have something against him... check the blogs, they all start with "We never thought Michael McDonald would be cool but...." or... "We never thought we'd like his music but....")... figures it'd take him doing a track with Grizzly Bear for them to add that little "but" in there... You guys may know everything about indie rock... but you know NOTHING of soul.
Open your minds blogosphere! "no tan, baaaad man!"
Enjoy.
I mean this cat just keeps doing shit that makes me love my culture that much more. Mos is to HipHop what Stevie is to Soul music. What the Stones is to drugs. The guy just keeps reinventing himself & the genre. I love cats that just aren't afraid to push the limits & make me happy.
& if you aren't happy right now then just listen to this track... really listen to it... & if it doesn't make you feel good then at least you just have a new song for free.
He did this song for us.. his listeners.. you know why?
Cuz.... life is good.
you know every now & then a track comes along that truly speaks to your heart somehow. Sometimes the simplest way to say something is the best way & this cat just got it right. It just speaks to my life in the weirdest way right now. it just makes me smile.
this song is by the newest addition to my "no tan, baaad man" family... Mayer Hawthorne. This guy is the funky version of a dude who has only showered with feet for the last 5 years. Signed to Stones Throw which is the label to be on if you DON'T suck. Gimmie a break man... the track is redic & the video is even better... so LA... so good. Sing it doggie. maybe so, maybe no - mayer hawthorne
.everyone loves to drink
so the drink specials here @ katsuya are absolutely redic... here's part of it: order 1 drink @ regular price & the 2nd drink is $1. Seriously right??
here's the other part; bring 10 people & you get a free bottle of vodka. don't know what kind but who cares.. its free.. & its Katsuya so you know they don't buy the cheap ish...
then you got me on the decks from 7- 2am *not from 5.. they crazy* playing everything from tori amos to jay-z & everything is graveee. just... japanese gravy.
i know you... i'll see you there eventually.
*oh & here's my new favorite beat of the moment... mac users won't get it but you windows folk might get a kick*
I wish I could find the remix album this guy did for Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" but that's as hard to find as my sanity. If anyone can find it please PLEASE send me the link...
Either way here's a gem off of the "The Way I See It" remix album. Happens to be my favorite track cuz' for some reason it just makes me feel happy for the 2 & change that it happens to play. No matter what's going on in your day or your life leave it to music to make things all better. Freshness.
I've been trying to save up some loot so I can buy this R-Line rear bumper for my car. However I need new brakes. Trying to save loot so I can get my bedroom furniture. However I need to pay my HOA dues every month. Trying to save loot so I can get some barstools & this 52" sony flatscreen cuz' peeps need somewhere to sit & my 46" is so 2 years ago. HOWEVER I need to chill with that & pay property tax.
So I was mulling around on the world wide web as I normally do while sitting in the Hotel room & came across a new Lyrics Born track. Not sure the details of it besides that it's gonna' be on his new upcoming joint "As U Were". I really REALLY like it. I'd call it different but if you know anything about the whole Quannum fam, this is directly right up their alley. The guy is a monster of creativity. & apparently a mind reader. Explains my situation perfectly.
A good friend of mine is going thru' some ish with her old college roomie. It seems that fate has given her old friend very agressive cancer. I had dinner with her yesterday & tried to console her & let her know that it's nothing that can be helped & sometimes life just ain't fair.
Then I remembered this ish about nano technology... those are little robots that are like 1000 times smaller than a hair that basically search & destroy cancer cells & repair body parts. Its real. Proven. My moms had colon & breast cancer & survived BOTH of them. Never been healthier. & I told her this & let her know that modern science is crazy nowadays and well.. anything is possible.
So I found a little gem last week that I'd love to share. The breakdown is priceless...
Its also dedicated to a girl who has cancer that I've never met. Take it anyway you want but make sure its positive....
Replacing my Pre has been the bane of my existence... granted this week is going by CONSIDERABLY better than last week, still... this one simple fix is exceedingly hard for NO good reason whatsoever.
Long story short, the insurance on my acct was removed mistakenly during the Pre madness of the 6th of June. & because of that they couldn't replace my ish without me yelling at sprint. Then it took 3 days for the fix to show up on Assurion's *the company replacing the fone* notes. THEN you have to sign & fax back an affadavit & copy of your liscense along with a pint of blood & a piece of the Berlin Wall.
So Sprint & Assurion.. this track's for you.
*UPDATE: Looks like Assurion is the big loser here... there's apparently no communication between anyone there & they have barely any idea what they're doing. Sprint.. my bad.. thanks for the 50 bux... ASSURION... this tracks for you.
i'm WAYY too happy about this upcoming Teusday where I can finally play what I want for people who want to hear it.
Been too long. It's free *which is the dopest thing ever* & there's no Hollywood B.S. even tho' the spot is in the middle of Hollywood. Trust we gonna' have a good time.
Come thru!!
.blue eyed soul ya'll!!
Mayun... I gotta' give it up to
these guys... I don't really know where they get it from but I gotta'
say these dudes really make me feel good when I hear them.
.FREEDOM!!!!
so my this dude I know finally *& I do
mean FINALLY* broke up with his GF of like 8 years or so. He calls me
the other day just to rant a little & let it out & that was
dope.
I'm happy for this guy cuz' he's a good person & there's SO MANY
females that I know would love him. So this next post is for him cuz'
he needs to get his Mel Gibson on. freedom - the procussions freedom train - de la soul
.hannibal for king, indeed...
so I've been working out again.. consistently since like
August & I gotta' say it's been cool.. keeps me healthy & makes
me feel good.. & it allows me to zone out & listen to music as
loud as I want for a few hours.. dope.
Then I saw this.
.sleep would be awesome
but after playing countless games of Halo, being up all day, working out & whatever else I did today, I STILL CAN'T DO IT.
*sigh*
So I don't know if I can explain my excitement that the new Palm Pre` is coming out in June *hopefully*.
If you don't know what this guy is, let's just say that there's been alot of "iPhone killers" out there that have really tried to compete with the iPhone & none has even come close. Guess it takes a former designer of Apple's O.S. to do for Palm what no one else has been able to.
Just in time too. I don't know how many calls or text messages get dropped or that I just don't get in general. Has nothing to do with Sprint. It's just my janky Treo 755p. It's days are done.
Few days ago I had to live without my fone. Painful. Somewhat relaxing cuz' I didn't get that 5 AM call from my mom but still painful cuz' I couldn't reach out. Either way... I hated it.
see as soon as I start to do my taxes someone else calls
me & is all "yo we need to 1099 you cuz' of a gig you did with us
back in July.." DAMMIT MAN!! I was almost done with this ish & then
this..? I don't even know what a 1099 is but I know it has something to
do with my taxes.
I don't even know why I'm complaining. I'm not the dude that's actually
pushing the buttons. I mean I could say if I had already DONE my ish
but I haven't so it's cool. I'm over it.
.sometimes you just need to count your blessings....
So I did this commercial a few weeks back & to say I've been geeked about it is an understatement. It's my first SAG national in a while & it felt good to rock an audition again like that. Then you get to shoot & do your thing & realize that there's technical difficulties that prevent you from shining like you could have...
Hence the end result. The back of my head never looked so good.
In HD no less.
Wait.. is that my..? Yah I can make out my nose & maybe a lip or 2...
Wow.
Lame.
*sigh*...
& then I thought about all those other actors in this town that haven't even booked a national. The one's that are still working hard, waiting & wanting. There's all those actors that would LOVE to be in the position that I'm in. In hindsight, it's a really good "problem" to have.
So this track is for everyone who's getting it in the profession they love & for everyone who's still moving forward in a profession they DON'T love. Either way, keep working hard.. not everyone is so blessed.
